Greetings, fellow LWRA folks,
This will be the end of the ’24 Bytes; we will start anew next week on a new chunk of HAM, (real bad humor).
Anyway, a couple of things, I profoundly apologize about the net last week. It was a mix up in net control I will pay more attention to the holiday nets this year. To those four who came abord thanks for having a little conversation to keep the net alive. As a reminder, we have a 5th week net and rest assured someone will be there as NC!
The month of January is LWRA dues month we will begin accepting dues for 2025* you can pay at the meeting, online www.lwra.us/membership scroll to the bottom of the page scan the QR Code for PayPal or mail to P.O. Box 54 Lake Wales, Florida 33859-0054. The dues are currently $24.00, more fun than you can stand, for less than the cost of a fast-food meal. Still a great deal.
The QRP was GREAT! A big THANKS to the team for once again a great event. The location was good for the ‘back to the basics’ HF QRP. We did have a hidden theme, antennas for HF every station had a different type of antenna in use. We had nine stations operating on 8 different antennas. 6 HF stations, one GMRS (W4JFS son manned it and made 5 contacts; amazing young man!) One monitor station showing SDR capabilities and one 2M/70CM station for talk in. Multiple contacts across the hemisphere and an exciting new HAM making his first 20M contact, welcome Tom Cloud KQ4YPX who joined the club the day before and came to his first event. Welcome!
Look for the announcement regarding the January QRP in the days ahead. We will be trying new and interesting topics for the “tailgate tech” portion of the QRP.
Don’t forget the meeting this month we will have our ‘State of the Club’ presentation with reflections and projections for the club. It is an exciting time to be a HAM in this area! With new HAM joining and folks testing every month the future looks promising for sure. Thursday Jan 9th , 2025, at 7PM. Lake Wales Fire Station No1 (253 West Central Ave, app. 1.4 mile east of McDonalds).
On behalf of Dan W5DBH VP, Gary K4GHB Treasurer, Gene WH6DNF Secretary, Mike AG4LT Board at Large, and myself Mike KB4FHP, Thank You to the great substance of this organization, each of you! Have a Happy and SAFE New Year! May the ‘waves’ be in your favor.
Don’t forget the nets:
