WHO ARE THE LAKE WALES RADIO AMATEURS ?

The LWRA (Lake Wales Radio Amateurs) was founded in 1974 by local Hams and has over 60 active members on the roster. We are an ARRL Special Service Club.  We are the leaders in our Amateur Radio communities who provide active training classes, publicity programs and actively pursue technical projects and operating activities.

The group is made up of folks from all walks of life with one common interest: Amateur Radio. Our membership consists of year round local residents and “Snow Birds”.  Our activities include local chatter on our repeaters, family picnics, QRP (Low Transmitter Power operating), DX (Long Distance) chasing, contesting, ARES, and digital voice and data communications.  We encourage anyone with an interest in two-way communications, electronics, computers, or just a desire to learn something new to please contact us or drop in on one of our meetings or picnics.  Our Monthly meetings are open to both Ham’s and the general public. LWRA REPEATER INFORMATION – K4LKW/R

  • 147.330 MHz – PL 127.3 Hz. – Located near Lake Wales Senior High School – Lake Wales
  • 442.425 MHz – PL 127.3 Hz – Located on the City of Dundee Water Tower – Dundee

LWRA REPEATER STATUS (AS OF 1200 EST 12/24/20):

  • 147.330 MHz – VERTEX STANDARD VX7000:  OFFLINE – Having noise issues on the input at the moment.

  • 147.330 MHz – ECHOLINK NODE: OFFLINE – New location for operation to be determined.

  • 442.425 MHz – OPERATIONAL – YAESU DR2X – AMS Mode (Analog or Fusion)


UPCOMING LWRA CLUB EVENTS

LWRA WEEKLY NET:  Every Tuesday at 1930 – K4LKW UHF Repeater – 442.425 MHz, PL. 127.3 Hz.  Note:  If repeater is down or unavailable net will be held on the K4LKW UHF Repeater – 442.425 MHz, PL. 127.3 Hz.   Update 12/24/20:  The weekly net is being held on the 442.425 MHz repeater until problems with the 147.330 MHz repeater are resolved.
LWRA NEXT MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING:  Thursday January 14, 2021 – 1900  –  Meeting to be held via Zoom.   Look at LWRA meeting announcement post for meeting info.
Monthly membership meetings have been cancelled until further notice due to COVID-19 precautions.  Stay tuned to the club website, the weekly LWRA club net, or the membership email list for future announcements about  “on the air” meetings or the re-start of monthly membership meetings.
LWRA NEXT QRP EXPEDITION:  Saturday December 26, 2020 – 0900 – Crystal Lake Park – 205 N. 5th Street, Lake Wales.  Come out and meet your fellow LWRA members and setup your portable HF, VHF, UHF equipment.

The Lake Wales Radio Amateurs offer FREE Volunteer Licensing Exams with the Laurel VEC.  .These test sessions are offered free on the 1st Saturday of every month at the American Red Cross, Polk County Chapter in downtown Winter Haven.  Registration is free.  The deadline for registration is by 6:00 P.M., on the Thursday before exam day.
