LWRA President’s Message – Week of 10/09/23

Good Afternoon,

I made it back from Western Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. I made arrangements for you all to sample the nice weather we had so I bottled some and distributed it overnight last night. You should have already received it this morning into the afternoon and evening, Enjoy!

I would like to thank John for a great net last week and for his restraint on the wear and tear of the first of the months net on the repeater. 32 check ins!

That is a good Segway into the net announcement; The LWRA weekly net will Tuesday the 10 of October at 7:30 PM Join Rick NI4S on the 442.425MHz machine (127.3) The CTCSS is 127.3 on both TX and RX. This repeater also is available for C4FM Fusion anytime OTHER that Nets.

Rick will announce if the Round Table will be held and on which repeater.

Notes for the NET. We have someone typically monitoring the VHF machine just incase you cannot get into the UHF machine. 147.330 127.3 also, you can check into the net via our LWRA Members Signal Chat group. If you do not have the Chat please see John W4JFS or Russ N4RTD for admission. We can log you in to the net via these other methods.

The LWRA meeting is this week! Please come out and join us for the monthly meeting. We are at the Lake Wales Fire Station #1 253 West Central Ave. In Lake Wales. Come meet fellow hams for a great time. The meeting starts at 7PM Thursday October 11th,2023.  We will have a business meeting as well as a short program of interest.

 A reminder the LWRA’s World Famous HAM’n Beans will be this month. It will be located in Winter Haven at the end of the month on the 28th.  We will demonstrate our hobby to your family so bring a friend and or family member to see the hobby. We will then partake in some Chili, Beans and some fixins during the lunch hour at noon. We welcome our WCF ARRL friends to this event from allover west Central Florida Section before they have their meeting down the road at the PCEOC. Our Tailgate Tech will be ‘Emergency Communications”’ some folks will have their go kits, and we will have a hands on ‘traffic set up’ where you can pass traffic using the ARRL format. (We will do this using low power transmitters for practice.) no experience is necessary we will walk you through it!

We have 3 bean dishes volunteered I need at least two more.

I also have the service wear, plates and cups. Some drinks and few more would be nice. I also will take any other items for the lunch you have to offer.  The detailed list will be included in next weeks message, More information at https://lwra/us/qrp

 Events:

This  Friday and Saturday will be two events for HAMs to participate in.

Our Friends and Lakeland Amateur Radio Club will provide safety communications for the Warrior Walk this Saturday. It is a great event!

The event will start at 8AM ( for the LARC team) they will position around Lake Hollingsworth to provide safety for those walking this distance. We will call in any need for assistance on the Warrior Walk Net on 146.685Mhz -.6 with 127.3 CTCSS TX and RX.  They always can use the help and you need not be a member of LARC; they will welcome your assistance. The 14th Annual Warrior Walk id Saturday The 14ht at First Presbyterian Church 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive Lakeland. The event will be over at 1200. If you have a safety vest please bring it.

PCARS Hamfest aka Melbourne Hamfest will be Friday and Saturday the 13th and 14th of October.  Friday 1-7PM Saturday 9-3 The talk in is in the  PCASR repeater 146.850MHz -.6  CTCSS 107.2 Tx and RX

 $10 ticket good for both days.  150 tables are set up for tailgate.  This is the ARRL Florida Convention so come out and start the HAMFEST Florida season.
