LWRA Ham Bytes – Week of 5/25/26

Good MONDAY! VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

I have listed the Helping Hams Saturday for several weeks. I have mentioned it at meetings and on the nets. Currently, I have, with consultation of the QRP Committee have made the decision to cancel the Helping Hams for this coming Saturday. Here are the prevailing reasons for the decision.

1) We had only one request for aid. That person had been severely injured in a vehicle crash/pedestrian several months ago. He, through a fellow HAM, had requested our help in getting his stations back on the air. Circumstances have prevented the work to be done on our QRP date. At this time, we will be helping him on the 4th of June. More information will be posted next Monday in Ham Bytes. Thanks to those who volunteered to work/support Helping Hams.

2) We have a conflict that is of importance to the date. The Hurricane Expo will be at Lakeland HP Funding and Ham Radio, including Polk ARES, LARC and LWRA, have been specifically invited to attend. What an opportunity to highlight our hobby and the importance we have in our county and surrounding counties.

3) Many folks who are key to the success of our QRP team are unavailable for this weekend.
Thank You all for understanding and remember you can certainly go play radio at a park, attend the Expo, or get together for a radioactive breakfast with friends.

Many have asked about FIELD DAY. LWRA, in conjunction with our friends at LARC, will be running Field Day at the Sun N Fun campus this year. The Davis building is AC equipped with great facilities and has great restroom and even shower facilities. More information will be released from the team coordinating he event. Now, we need set-up, operations, support, and take-down help. So many hands make light work. See the attached flyer.

QRP- see the above monolog. If you signed up, please understand that we have cancelled Saturday, Thanks for signing up.

The Net will be N4JPC Jim on Tuesday at 7PM. Please join Jim for the net and subsequent Round Table. We will be on the 442.425Mhz machine with 127.3 Hz on Transmit and Receive.

Today is Memorial Day. Please take a moment to reflect on those who serve, serve, and sacrifice our freedom. As recently as a 93-year-old WWII vet said, my (as a soldier) yesterdays paved the way for your today and tomorrow’s (freedom). Thank You for those who served and especially for those who gave all.

We still need a few net controllers for our GMRS associated nets. Third or fourth week on Bartow and W5DBH’s repeater in Haines City.
Dan’s W5DBH Haines City Net on Fridays 462.55 127.3 he needs subs and controllers for his 7 PM Friday net.
I need a third- or fourth-week controller for the Polk GMRS net for Tuesday at 7PM each week. 462.725 141.3. Also, standby subs for all three nets would be great. Let me know about any 863-412-2467

Thanks, Russ, for the celestial updates. Great net reminders on SIGNAL each day… a wonderful tool!
