Good day LWRA!
Well, it is THANKSGIVING ’25! I would like to convey to each of you that I am thankful to have each as a co-Hort in amateur radio. We, as a group, have made LWRA fun, educational and willing to try something new to make our club enjoyable and productive.
Thanksgiving can be traced back to the Pilgrams (no indication of a turkey being invited) and Abraham Lincoln in 1863, established a time to be set aside to be thankful for unity and gratitude. It was officially set as the fourth Thursday in November by Franklin Roosevelt in 1941. I am sure each of you have special Thanksgiving memories and segway to this. On the Tuesday LWRA Net this week will be our own club treasurer, Gary Bishop K4GHB. He will have the net and will have a slightly different format. He’s going to ask a Thanksgiving question so to get ready and enjoy the net with Gary.
As far as HAM for Thanksgiving, don’t forget the weeklong ‘Flavor of the Week’, The Ham Flavor on this Turkey Day Week will be (digital) NXDN on the 442.025 repeater in South Lakeland also known as the KEG repeater. The analog ‘topping cranberry’ will be the LWRA UHF 442.425 127.3 repeater in Dundee. This repeater is available on either C4FM (Fusion) or Analog.
We might try two Helping HAMS this Saturday morning. Both are very quick antenna solutions. I am still trying to arrange… so look for emails to confirm. Helping Hams is something we do once a year, usually the Sat after Thanksgiving. We typically have a QRP on that weekend each month. Due to the holiday weekend, we take a few folks who go out and help, fix typically antennas, for some of our fellow members.
December meeting will be a get together at LWFD station with treats and coffee, more to come on that in the next few days so look for additional Bytes in the next two weeks. It has been suggested to hold it a little earlier in the afternoon to allow for some who have visual acuity issues that make driving a night difficult.
Thanks, Russ, for the celestial updates. Great net reminders on SIGNAL each day… a wonderful tool!
