LWRA Ham Bytes – Week of 5/12/25

Nice rainy day! We definitely need it! Over 4.5” inches here since yesterday!

I would like to thank Dan for arranging the program last month. Mr. Massey (Ed: Howard Massey WB4NYT) is a plethora of knowledge. His explanation of antenna theory ways to get you HF wire antenna to optimize was much appreciated.

If you missed it, we should have a link for you in a few days to review.

The club voted to explore a postcard campaign for HAMs that may not know about us. With well over 1500 Hams in the county it is certainly worth exploring. Also, we are helping with a scholarship to Public Safety students through CERT. Our own Gary Bishop will present at the CERT annual dinner this weekend with ‘radio’ as the theme of his address.

Lastly, we are encouraging folks to join our club by offering a free membership* if you successfully test at our VE site.

Our upcoming end of the month QRP will be at Lake Shipp Park with the topical focus on POTA (Parks on The Air) a great venue in the hobby for HF, using many modes like FT8, FT4, Phone and CW. A lot of fun. Our focus will be to let you see how to HUNT, we cannot activate that park due to rules. What you need to listen for and what you need to say. We will also show you how to see ‘spot’ listings on the POTA site and much much more. If you want to set up, you station for HF for regular radio play… please come join us. May 31st at Lake Shipp Park in Winter Haven.
