LWRA Ham Bytes – Week of 5/05/25

Good Monday! Cinco de ’Mayo!

I hope all are well, as we transition to our anticipated rainy season, I would be “wise to remind”, as my dad said frequently; have a plan or routine to protect your radio investment from lightning and/or power surge! The most efficient of course is to safely have your antenna disconnected from your radio as well as power interruption before the storm gets to you. I know there are various methods that are recommended to accomplish this. Research with a trusted source to utilize the most advantageous to your situation.

In that light what an opportunity you will have at this month’s meeting. Mr. Howard Massey (WB4NYT – Ed), a wonderful, knowledgeable and humble man, will be our guest speaker this month. Brother Howard, as I truly respectfully call him, has such immense knowledge in electronics, antennas and HAM radio in general. Here is you chance, Howard had graciously offered to have an “Open Forum” in other words you have four days to craft the question you always wanted to ask about our hobby, from a technical aspect.

This is NOT a try to stump the speaker but ask carefully thought-out questions of something that you need clarification or understanding of. Now, I know there will be others that have great understanding as well in the room and Howard will certainly defer and accomplice them during this time. I know I have, what appears to be a ‘less than intelligent question’ regarding a theory confuses me to this day. I will ask him Thursday. It will be on the Google Meets live so join us any way you can.

If you cannot join us, then join by Google Meets using the appropriate link below.
