LWRA President’s Message – Week of 2/12/24

Good morning,

A busy busy day yesterday so Monday Message is a Tuesday Teaser I guess.

Thanks to Dan W5DBH for running the meeting last week and for imparting his knowledge regarding crimping. Several of you have commented about learning something new about that subject.

Upcoming March meeting we will have a great learning program with more information to come next week. The teaser VARA…..

I hope everyone had a great Hamcation weekend, found that item you just could not live without, or attended the forum you wanted to hear or maybe saw the HAM operator you’ve talked to and wanted to meet.

This week’s Net will be tonight on the 442.425MHz machine + and 127.3Hz TX and RX Rick NI4S will be the net control operator. He will commence the at 730 PM followed by the Round table/ informal on the same repeater.

Don’t forget we have a 2M machine that needs to be exercised 147.33MHz 127.3 as well.  Let me know if you have any problems with either repeater and we will see what we can do.

The QRP flyer is on the website www.lwra.us/qrp . This month will be a straight up QRP at Crystal Lake Park , Lake Wales from 9-12. Come out and play radio, learn about HF and meet fellow HAMS. The event will be the last Saturday of the month  02/24/2024!

The other nets are Eagle NET every evening at 830 for the WCF Section on the NI4CE system www.ni4ce.org for more information.

NXDN Net on the NI4CE NXDN systems Wednesday 730PM ( NXDN radio required)  www.ni4ce.org/nxdn

Polk ARES net every Wednesday at 7PM , a great net for local in the county 7PM on the WC4PEM repeater network https://polkares.org

Fusion NET 630 on Thursday at 630 PM on the PARC 146.685 C4FM DN or VW mode (Yaesu FUSION radio required) followed at 730 on the same repeater in analog with the Traders Net a place you can find equipment or sale equipment in the local area.

Coming in March on Tuesday’s at 7PM we will try the new Polk GMRS Net on the 462.725 repeater with 141.3 CTCSS.  We need dual licensed Ham/GMRS operators to check in to be the examples for proper check in procedure for this NET. We are trying to practice this BEFORE hurricane season so these GMRS operators will have experience when giving information regarding their CERT or community groups throughout the county into the EOC, which will be operated by dual licensed operators. As Paul would say as the EM Director, another ‘Tool in the in the tool box’; its all about safety and communication during a time of emergency. A reminder GMRS license is required.  AND I WILL NEED A FEW NET CONTROL OPERATORS YOU ONLY NEED A GMRS LIC TO DO THIS NET .

I am sure I have forgotten something!

Again I cannot emphasize how it feels to hear and have the support from one of the best amateur clubs in the world. I hear folks taking about the friends they have made as well as the camaraderie.  Thanks for being that club!
