Good Monday!
This morning, I was driving around Lake Wailes in Lake Wales, Florida. As I went down the steep hill toward the lake noticed how calm the lake was. The reflection was exact mirror imaged (see attached photo) which caused me to ponder something.
This past weekend we had a GREAT QRP, but what was amazing was the absolute enthusiasm that folks who had been HAMs for years teaching, mentoring and welcoming not one, but SEVERAL new HAMs to the hobby and or event. Some explained antennas. Some explained how to build antennas. Other took time to introduce new HAMs to some of the most talented off the cuff teachers of our craft. I did have more than one tell me this was the type of hobby they had been searching for. That mirror image, not unlike the lake. They are not shy about showing that exact image of what they know, know how to do, or even what they have learned this week. A mirror image in a way. I am so proud to be a part of the group that extends the bonds of fellowship, knowledge and just pain fun to others in this crazy hobby.
Before that I attended the ARES meeting at the EOC on Thursday. The same thing, folks lending advises, ideas and suggestions on how to make our communities safer and building communication systems that will make our citizens safe in a storm, unforeseen disaster or calamity. The positive encouragement from our leadership in Emergency Management and County Radio Shop. Mirror image of what public servants should be, that is where HEROs come from. Helping others, Everyone is important, Responding to need, and Others before self.
Great news the WIRES X Fusion repeater in Bartow is now WIRES capable thanks to Russ, Richard and Robert. More to come on how to use this if you have a Yaesu Fusion Radio 145.270MHz C4FM ONLY. W4PSR Thanks Polk School Radio Society, Lakeland Amateur Radio Club, Lake Wales Repeater Association, and Polk County Emergency Management for success in this project.
If you did not make the QRP the video will be up on the www.lwra.us/qrp shortly.
February QRP will be a FOX HUNT; more to come! BUT A REMINDER THE DATE WILL BE FEB 15th due to Tech Con at the Polk EOC on the 22nd..
Much more stuff but I’ve up to much of your time as it is.
