Good Monday,
I was happy to see, and join vicariously via the video, our QRP. The group comes together to socialize and more importantly learn about our hobby and interest. Thanks to all who made this happen and for those who cooked and supported the event. I am currently enjoying a few days in the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky. As I have said jokingly for years, I have to bring my wife back to KY every year to renew her accent certification. Anyway, I’ll be heading home in a couple of days. I will be traveling on Thursday and will monitor the DMR FL SW as well as Polk DSTAR if you want to stop by.
As you may or may not know, W4JFS and Russ N4RTD had collaborated on a project over the las few months called ‘Flavor of the Day with a Topping’ the idea was to exercise the many repeaters we have here , both analog and digital; to keep them active and to maybe encourage checking out the other repeaters that are available. It was a huge success; we were able to meet some new folks as well as encourage the use of our resources. As the seasons change ( for you folks new to Florida we have season change here, just not as pronounced as they are up north), where it is beginning to be fall elsewhere, here it is college football season, that’s the season we watch here. Anyway, thanks to these guys for the idea and the steadfast implementation and notifications each day on Signal reminding us of the repeater. We are working on a new variation for the winter on this so stay tuned! If you have any suggestions let us know so we can work with those new guys as they learn how to use the radio. Good Stuff!
Second the ARRL has made it VERY easy to respond to this letter writing. Don’t panic, it’s already written. You can scan the QR code or follow the instruction on the link. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE ARRL TO USE THIS. Also, if you have already submitted this letter, you do not have to send it again. THIS WILL BE IN A SECOND EMAIL.
Hamfest season will really start to get going in the next few weeks. PCARS in Melbourne October 11th and 12th. https://pcars.com for tickets info and table rental. FOR THE FIRST TIME TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE. If anyone wants to split a table rental let me know.
I am working with Mike AG4LT, who is currently deployed on a Red Cross mission, on how to do a sign-up sheet. The club will provide the meat this year. We need a few desserts, a few hot sides like beans and veggies and a few classifieds as salads or cold sides. These sides should not have to be extremely large if others bring items. Also, we need the drinks and paper and flat ware as well. We are planning for Simmers Young due to the multi table areas as a center area that we can set up a couple pop up tents. More to come on this in the next few days. He has made a list of what we need. Please send the email to kn4itq@comcast.net with what you are bringing please. You can use the form Mike made to help us determine how much food we will have. ALSO, PLEASE TELL HOW MANY YOU ARE BRINGING THIS IS A CLUB FAMILY OUTING. SEE ATTACHMENTS.
Update! We are VERY close to reestablishing the Echo Link and adding All Star to the VHF repeater, hopefully in a few weeks. Stay tuned! A little issue has manifested trying to work our way through it.
Don’t forget the nets: We need ya! The net controller this Tuesday our 5th week controller KT4WX Darrell, if you can check in, please do, if not let us know that you ‘would if you could’ on signal. The net time is 730 on the K4LKW UHF repeater. Look for the announcement on the net for the round table to follow.
Don’t forget WINLINK Monday: We need you here too!
Thanks, Russ, for the celestial updates.
