LWRA Ham Bytes – Week of 9/22/25

Good Monday,

Well, we have just about wiped another month into history; time travels faster when you are busy! The HAM community is busy with several projects. LWRA is coming up on September QRP and panning Ham N Beans for October. The ARRL is advocating for federal legislation regarding HOA., and we enter the season of the southern Hamfest. Let’s look at those.

First our LWRA September QRP: Location Lake Shipp Park of Lake Shipp Dr in Winter Haven. The Tail Gate Tech will continue in the Emergency Comms Theme. Come out and see and discuss options for operating in case of extended power loss. This can be a hurricane or other outages we may have. With the increasing demand on the grid my friends in the industry outages can be more frequent. Come out from 9-12 to set up stations using emergency power alternatives. Or just come out and enjoy the fellowship. Top Cat Cuisine will be cooking the dogs and brats with the ole Dog on the Porch bringing the items to cook. A donation jar should be available if you feel so inclined. Bring a drink, it’s still hot out there.
Second the ARRL has made it VERY easy to respond to this letter writing. Don’t panic, it’s already written. You can scan the QR code or follow the instruction on the link. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE ARRL TO USE THIS. Also, if you have already submitted this letter, you do not have to send it again. THIS WILL BE IN A SECOND EMAIL.

Hamfest season will really start to get going in the next few weeks. PCARS in Melbourne October 11th and 12th. HTTPS://pcars.com for tickets info and table rental. FOR THE FIRST TIME TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE. If anyone wants to split a table rental let me know.

I am working with Mike AG4LT, who is currently deployed on a Red Cross mission, on how to do a sign-up sheet. The club will provide the meat this year. We need a few desserts, a few hot sides like beans and veggies and a few classified as salads or cold sides. These sides should not have to be extremely large if others bring items. Also, we need the drinks and paper and flat ware as well. We are planning for Simmers Young due to the multi table areas as a center area that we can set up a couple pop up tents. More to come on this in the next few days. He has made a list of what we need. Please send the email to kn4itq@comcast.net with what you are bringing please. You can use the form Mike made to help us determine how much food we will have. ALSO, PLEASE TELL HOW MANY YOU ARE BRINGING THIS IS A CLUB FAMILY OUTING. SEE ATTACHMENTS.

Update! We are VERY close to reestablishing the Echo Link and adding All Star to the VHF repeater, hopefully in a few weeks. Stay tuned!

Don’t forget the nets: We need ya! The net controller this Tuesday is N4JPC Jim, if you can check in, please do, if not let us know that you ‘would if you could’ on signal. The net time is 730 on the K4LKW UHF repeater.

Summertime our numbers dip a little so join us if you can.

Check out W4JFS’ ‘flavor of the day’ (what repeater we are highlighting that day) on Signal Chat.
Don’t forget WINLINK Monday: We need you here too!

Thanks, Russ, for the celestial updates.
