LWRA Ham Bytes – Week of 9/15/25

Good Monday,

What a great meeting last Thursday. Dan did a great job with the ‘building a fixed station quarter wave antenna”. Watching some of the new and some seasoned Hams solder for the first time, or in a long time. More importantly the enthusiasm of the folks rallying around new hams to ELMER them, what a treat! Again, thanks for the teams that work to make the meeting available to those who just can’t be there. Dan, Dave and of course Russ: https://youtu.be/5AoyEybEwv0

As we move into the fall we have our September QRP this will be at Lake Shipp Park in Winter Haven with emergency communications are Tail Gate Tech theme. We will have stations set up with emergency power of varying types as well as tips to help get you through no power days if that happens. www.lwra.us/qrp for the flyer. Top Cat Cuisine will be cooking the dogs this QRP, one of the ole big dogs will be going on a cruise. I hope he has a great deserved vacation. Thanks to Tommy for being willing to sub there.

Ham N Beans has been a conundrum this year. We have conflicts on almost every weekend in October even into the Nov 1st time frame. So, I guess we will have to stay with the traditional last Saturday of the month. I would like to ask those who are coming to provide a covered dish this year.

I am working with Mike AG4LT, who is currently deployed on a Red Cross mission, on how to do a sign-up sheet. The club will provide the meat this year. We need a few desserts, a few hot sides like beans and veggies and a few classified as salads or cold sides. These sides should not have to be extremely large if others bring items. Also, we need the drinks and paper and flat ware as well. We are planning for Simmers Young due to the multi table areas as a center area that we can set up a couple easy up tents. More to come on this in the next few days.

Update! We are VERY close to reestablishing the Echo Link and adding All Star to the VHF repeater, hopefully in a few weeks. Stay tuned!

Don’t forget the nets: We need ya! I’m the net controller this Tuesday, if you can check in, please do, if not let us know that you ‘would if you could’ on signal. The net time is 730 on the K4LKW UHF repeater.

Summertime our numbers dip a little so join us if you can.

Check out W4JFS’ ‘flavor of the day’ (what repeater we are highlighting that day) on Signal Chat.
Don’t forget WINLINK Monday: We need you here too!

Thanks, Russ, for the celestial updates.
