Greetings, fellow LWRA folks,
11/18/24
Good day LWRA!
I am back in the greatest, friendliest, and best equipped Ham Playground in the US, bar none! I had several QSO’s while away with the majority of them right back here at home via various modes like DMR and Dstar. With that being said, it’s great to have ‘radioactive’ club members who will reach out on the local repeaters and the great LWRA machines. Please continue to use the resources we have. We are so blessed to have so many ways to communicate.
Onto other matters.
It has been a very interesting nonscientific study to conclude, though preliminary, that after the storms I have noticed a resurgence and a surgency in the interest of Ham and other modes like GMRS. I overheard a conversation on an Atlanta repeater that they had folks attend their meeting this past month searching out how to become HAM (because of the storm). Also, for those that use GMRS a plethora of GMRS repeaters have popped up across the south. I say this to encourage our ‘experienced’ body of the club to encourage friends, family and those prodigal HAMs, that only use their radios when the wind is blowing HAHA, to practice radio and radio procedures or give them guidance on how to become ‘radioactive’.
And finally, QRP November. This November we will do something a little different. The return of our November ‘Helping Hams’ will be our goal. Now, this is also a place to learn to explore and meet new folks. We have four Hams that need a little attention to their antennas. We will actually have a signup sheet to divide up the locations. They are all relatively close to each other, so we are trying to figure out a lunch meet or maybe breakfast. More information to come! Please check out the sign-up sheet so we can have an idea of how to divide up the crew. NONE OF THIS IS STRENUOUS just a task that one person cannot do or in some cases physically cannot do it alone.
Even if you have no idea how to assist THIS IS AN ON-HAND LEARNING you will gain two, no three things if you come to helping hands. 1) learning something 2) comradery 3) development of friendships.
I will send the locations and schedules as we get closer to Helping Ham on the last Saturday of the month from 9-12.
EMAIL IF YOU PLAN ON HELPING HAMS (qrp) IN NOVEMBER
kn4itq@comcast.net two will be in the Lake Wales area. The other two will be in the Cypress Gardens area. ALL of these are very light antenna work or cable work. One is helping a ham gain confidence in his ability to set up his HF station.
