LWRA Ham Bytes – Week of 3/03/25

Frustrating day!

Having computer issues and cannot get into anything!

A short Ham Bytes due to transferring to email form my phone.

As a reminder the March Madness will begin at the LWRA with Russ N4RTD presentation on WIRES X. This will be are (our) hands on learning experience on Thursday March 13th &PM at LWFD Station 1. We along with three other groups a year or so ago purchased a new Yaesu DRX2 repeater. It is located on the county tower in Bartow and operates on C4FM/Fusion on 145.270 (145.670) This repeater is C4FM only and requires Yaesu Fusion radio. Wires lets you explore gateway into the connected world of communications. With established groups or rooms all over the world. Some of the more popular rooms like America Link allowing you to talk to other Hams from all over the country. Some radios, but not all, are Yaesu FT 1-2-3-5, FT70 for portables and FTM 100-200-300-400-500-510 for mobiles. We will also have our QRP at Crystal Lake in Lake Wales where our ‘Tail Gate Tech’ theme will be Wires X. This will give us a few hands-on opportunities. This will be 9-12 Saturday the 29th. NOTE we will NOT have ‘Big Dogs on the Porch’ those guys are participating in the Bike Ride providing communications. So, no lunch at the park that Saturday. But I’m sure we can have just as much fun!

Come out and set up a HF station or bring your Yaesu Fusion radios and learn about Wires.

I will post the link the week before the meeting.

Our keen planners of QRP are hard at work planning the March event. We will post info as soon as possible regarding the location and possible date change due to another HAM event.

A reminder dues are due until March 15th. Per our bylaws dues not received by that date will remove you from the roll. We need you to please consider renewing It has, and will continue, to make this a progressive learning club with each other and new amateurs in the area our priority. We stive to make our club a fun outgoing organization that cultivates education and camaraderie. Your renewal is vital to keep our objectives moving forward. https://www.lwra.us/membership for PayPal, address or other information regarding dues.

Great news the WIRES X Fusion repeater in Bartow is now WIRES capable thanks to Russ, Richard and Robert. More to come on how to use this if you have a Yaesu Fusion Radio 145.270MHz C4FM ONLY. W4PSR Thanks Polk School Radio Society, Lakeland Amateur Radio Club, Lake Wales Repeater Association, and Polk County Emergency Management for success in this project.

Russ and others are ‘turning on room periodically to hear what WIRES does. When these rooms are on you can join in the nets, or conversations without having to open WIRES. If you can hear them, you can join in. They will turn off automatically in about an hour after activation.
