LWRA Ham Bytes – Week of 9/08/25

Good Monday,

September 11th or 911 or Patriots Day!  This day should remind us of a lot of things.  I as others have connections that will be with me forever. I know EXACTLY where I was when the attack on our occurred. I am sure if you are in that age group that makes this what is known in the world as a ‘Historical Marker’.  Many of us have three maybe some have more.  Mine are President Kennedy’s assassination (6 years old), Challenger explosion, 911 and others.  The thing that makes these impactful, you can recall foods you had that day, smells, statements and memory recall of location and surroundings, in this case 24 years later.  But what it also does it should cause you to reflect on the why’s and what is has caused to change; some good some not so much.  Please stop and reflect on that day.  I would be careless to try and list the profound loss of life on that AND since that day as a result of that attack! In some ways it has proven resilience others our vulnerabilities. We meet at LWFD please join me when we see those men and women Thursday, thanking them for their willingness to stand in the gap!

I hope all had a great Labor Day, I spent the week sailing the high seas with my family.  We took our grand kids on a Disney Cruise. Great time!  The bad thing is you can’t play radio on the ship and certainly not in the Bahamas. Our fabulous VE team had a good turnout for testing this past weekend.  Speaking of VE, our VE team is led by John KU8Q who incidentally is the net controller for this week. Come out and join us for a good net on Tuesday.

The QRP team is also busy getting ready for the QRP this month. Always the last Saturday of the month.
Meeting on the 11th this will be a doozy as they say.  We are hands on going to learn about building ¼ antennas for your attic or station. Dan W5DBH will show us how to build, tune and use a VERY in expensive ¼ wave antenna for single band use that can be used in a variety of locations.  He will have the material list and other information at the meeting.  AS usual we will have the Google Meets connection that will post on Thursday as a reminder.

Same as in the past if you already have it.  For our first time recipients (new members) welcome to the LWRA! This is just a note for the President each Monday with what happening this week.  LWFD Station 1 Thursday the 11th at 7PM IMPORTANT NOTE!

Thursday will be a Homecoming parade at the same time as our meeting. ONLY come from the 27 side of the station, NOT CENTRAL AVE EAST, it will be blocked by barricades.

Don’t forget the nets: We need ya! Summertime our numbers dip a little so join us if you can. John is firing up the ole radio just to say hey! Tuesday 730PM on the UHF repeater.

Check out W4JFS’ ‘flavor of the day’ (what repeater we are highlighting that day) on Signal Chat.

Don’t forget WINLINK Monday: We need you here too!

Thanks, Russ, for the celestial updates.
